Going for gold: Car expert clocks up long service at Thurlow Nunn

These days, it can be difficult to find a long standing member of staff, with the average person changing jobs 10 to 15 times throughout their careers.

However local Vauxhall retailer, Thurlow Nunn Dunstable, is celebrating bucking the trend, after one employee has clocked up an impressive 40 years of service within Vauxhall Motors franchises.

Customers are in safe hands when it comes to their motoring needs, after Senior Sales Advisor Stan McDonald notched up four decades of continuous service at the dealership on High Street South. The team celebrated by presenting 57-year-old Stan with a commemorative gold watch.

Stan started at the dealership as a fresh-faced 18 year old in December 1976. He has been with the business all of his working life, starting as a parts warehouse manager before working his way into sales and up to the position he holds today.

Having seen the site change over the years, Stan remains one of the sturdy structures at the dealership and is impressed with how far the retailer has come. One thing that never fails to impress him is the innovation surrounding the Vauxhall models that he deals with.

He comments: “I really enjoy working with the team here, we all have a really strong bond – I suppose you would after such a long time! My long standing service is a testament to the people. I really enjoy the face-to-face interaction with customers, and having always worked with Vauxhall, am a personal fan of the Vauxhall brand.

“I have seen massive changes in the technological advances of cars – when I started, there were no radios or heated rear windows! Under the bonnet, technology has advanced leaps and bounds too, and of course, it’s staggering to see how much the showroom has changed over the years.”
