What are the Motability eligibility criteria?
To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the following mobility allowances and you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining.
Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Scheme.
Can any other allowance be used with the Motability Scheme?
If you receive any of the following allowances and have at least 12 months award remaining, you can exchange all or part of the allowance to cover the cost of a lease agreement:
Only these allowances can be used through the Motability Scheme.
How the change from DLA to PIP affects eligibility
You may have questions about Motability eligibility when on PIP. If you or the person you care for is an existing Motability user, the change from the DLA to PIP may impact on eligibility for the scheme. However, Motability will still lease cars to disabled motorists receiving the enhanced-rate Mobility Component of PIP, as this has the same value as the higher rate DLA Mobility Component.
If you are a current DLA recipient who is awarded the enhanced rate, your Motability eligibility will be unaffected as you move from DLA to PIP. If you receive the new AFIP allowance, you may also be eligible to benefit from the Motability Scheme.

I have less than 12 months' allowance. Can I still apply for a Motability car?
According to the Scheme guidelines, you need to have at least 12 months remaining on your award to join the Motability Scheme. If you have less than 12 months remaining, you will not be able to place a new application until the Department for Work and Pensions extend or renew your allowance.
