Following our successful intake of 13 apprentices in September 2018 we are recruiting our next cohort of apprentices for September 2019.
As a Thurlow Nunn apprentice, you will be employed full-time for the duration of your apprenticeship programme, so whilst you are learning you will also be earning!
What does the apprenticeship involve?
The Apprentice Technician programme is a comprehensive 3-year programme designed and delivered by Vauxhall to specifically provide you with the necessary knowledge and experience you will need to succeed within your chosen career path. You will work towards your NVQ level 2 and 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair through a combination of attending the Vauxhall Training Centre in Doncaster on block release placements for one week at a time, work-based learning and regular visits at the dealership by a Vauxhall trainer.
On a day-to-day basis you will work with your mentor. Initially shadowing them, but as you learn and develop skills you will be able to complete certain tasks yourself.
You will be training on up-to-the-minute products, such as the ecoTEC whisper diesels and Turbo petrol engines, designed to offer the highest MPG and the lowest emissions. Vehicles that have the latest technology that can read out your texts, project your phone’s apps to the IntelliLink screen, can park for you, are their own WiFi hotspots and can warn you of upcoming hazards.
As well as gaining practical work experience you will be studying for a nationally recognised qualification. We hope that you will stay with us once the apprenticeship is complete to be a part of the forever expanding Thurlow Nunn family and for the chance of career progression across the many roles within the automotive industry.
What are the requirements?
You will be required to have, or predicted to obtain, GCSEs at grades A*-C / 9-4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
You must be willing to work in a practical environment, eager to learn, able to take instruction and use your own initiative.
Who are we? What do we do?
Thurlow Nunn is part of a wider group of family owned companies - the oldest of which was established in 1875! We strive to retain the ‘family feel’ of our organisation in today’s fast-moving world and are proud that the fourth, fifth and sixth generations of the Thurlow family work within the group today.
At Thurlow Nunn, we’re proud to be one of the UK’s best-known and longest established Vauxhall car retailers, with modern showrooms and state-of-the-art service centres. Thurlow Nunn has grown from one dealership in Dereham in 1989, to 12 Vauxhall dealerships, in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the East of England; now employing over 450 people.
We get involved in our local communities by a variety of means, for example: by sponsoring local football and cricket clubs, providing support vehicles for charity events and providing local colleges with engines for their students to work on.
Things to consider:
Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the Vauxhall Academy in Doncaster to complete their apprenticeship training. Training is completed in one week blocks approximately once every two-three months. All training costs are covered by Thurlow Nunn (travel, accommodation and food).
